Book Review: The Rithmatist | Brandon Sanderson

The Rithmatist (The Rithmatist, #1)Friday April 8 2016
Title: The Rithmatist
Author: Brandon Sanderson
Age: 12+
Genre: Sci-Fi / Fantasy
Content Rating: G
My Rating: ******
Average time: 6-8 hours
Pages: 353
Summary: (from www.goodreads.com)

More than anything, Joel wants to be a Rithmatist. Rithmatists have the power to infuse life into two-dimensional figures known as Chalklings. Rithmatists are humanity’s only defense against the Wild Chalklings. Having nearly overrun the territory of Nebrask, the Wild Chalklings now threaten all of the American Isles.

As the son of a lowly chalkmaker at Armedius Academy, Joel can only watch as Rithmatist students learn the magical art that he would do anything to practice. Then students start disappearing—kidnapped from their rooms at night, leaving trails of blood. Assigned to help the professor who is investigating the crimes, Joel and his friend Melody find themselves on the trail of an unexpected discovery—one that will change Rithmatics—and their world—forever.

My Thoughts:

OhmygoshOhmygoshOhmygosh!!!! I LOVED this book so SOOOOO much!!!!! Ahhhhhh!!!! Okay, now that I am done fangirling about how awesome this book is, I need to now express to you why YOU NEED to read this book. I think that you would really enjoy this book if you enjoy math. It causes you to think in a way that makes you feel smart and I personally, love books that do that. I'm not even exaggerating when I say that I didn't put down this book. I read ALL 353 pages at once and it was fantastic. It took me about 6 hours but that's only because I'm a really fast reader. So yeah. You need to read this.

50 Random Facts About MEEEE!!!! (High School Edition)

Read the Middle School Edition here: 50 Random Facts About MEEEE

HI GUYS!!!!
One of the first posts that I ever put up on this website was my 50 Random Facts About Me Tag, I published it on April 17, 2013, almost THREE YEARS AGO. I figured that things have changed since then, so to keep the tradition going, here are 34 Random Facts About Me. (If you are confused or think that I'm going totally insane, go see the other post. :)

I Tag: Tudda Pudda, Jackie, Quayala (hope I spelled that right:) and anyone else who may be reading this.

  1. I really don't like sheep
  2. My best subject in school is Science (Physics, Biology, and Chemistry) even though I don't particularly enjoy it.
  3. I am as blind as a bat without my glasses.
  4. I quite enjoy earthy things. ex: grass, dirt, funny looking bugs, etc...
  5. I am currently writing a book.
  6. I have a friend who is an exchange student from Ukraine. (Hi Anna!)
  7. I am a Junior in high school
  8. I bruise and scar really easily.
  9. My favorite color is forest green
  10. Audrey Ryan may or may not be a pseudonym...
  11. I am involved in my school's theatre and choir program and I LOVE it!! (If you want to see a post that explains this topic a little bit more, comment down below)
  12. The last play that I was in was called "After Ever Happily." It was a one act (20 minutes) and I had 40 speaking lines! I played the Millers Daughter which is the princess from the Rumplestiltskin story.
  13. I have pretty bad anxiety and depression which is no fun.
  14. Last week I went on Choir Tour to Denver Colorado and it was so SO fun!!!!
  15. I have always been a bit boy crazy.
  16. Since I turned sixteen (the age that my parents started letting me date) I have only been on three dates and I have been the one that asked for two out of those three.
  17. My favorite number is anything that ends with a 7 except for 7 itself and 17.
  18. I write everything in cursive. My teachers all think that it is really strange.
  19. My grandmother taught me how to knit, crochet, and sew when I was six.
  20. I learned how to read when I was four and a half. Nobody taught me. I just kind of picked it up on my own. I had this old English textbook from the 50's or 60's that I would read and I think that it played a part in my "search for knowledge" at such a young age.
  21. I got a 26 on the ACT but I am hoping to retake it a couple of times and get it up to a 29 or 30. My 26 is actually the lowest score out of all my friends who told me their score which kind of stinks because I always considered myself a fairly smart person.
  22. My dad is an optometrist and once, he gave an eye exam to a dog.
  23. I have two people that I would consider my BEST friends: Juliet, and Bart. (pseudo-names to keep identities a secret) These two would be the first people I would call about anything.
  24. I did clogging for about eight years when I was little. I actually was pretty good and would go to competitions and stuff.
  25. When I go to college, I want to either major in Musical Theatre, Graphic Design, or Photography.
  26. I got my tonsils out over Christmas break last year and I still haven't really fully recovered. My body doesn't do so well with anesthetics
  27. I really don't like food. The thought of eating is kind of gross to me and I only do it because I would die if I didn't.
  28. I have TMJ which is a disease that prevents my jaw from functioning properly. Right now I am seeing 3 different doctors pretty regularly. Next week I see them all.
  29. I really enjoy painting
  30. When I turn 18, I want to open an Etsy shop.
  31. I have pretty advanced training in Photoshop and Illustrator. I was one of 5 kids in my College level Graphic Design class last year that actually passed the test.
  32. I am currently in College Math and AP English Comp
  33. After I graduate high school, I want to travel somewhere far away.
  34. I got my drivers licence 6 months after my sixteenth birthday. :)

Hope you guys enjoyed this post!

10 Things to Do If You Don't Get Asked To Prom

Hi Guys!
So at my school, the Junior Prom is coming up which is super exciting. All my friends are planning their dates,  renting their dresses, and practicing for Promenade. (Before you ask, no I did not get asked)

Promenade: N/V
[ˌpräməˈnād,präm ˈnäd]
A strange tradition in my town where all the juniors that go to prom are presented to the town and forced to do an awkward dance in front of THOUSANDS of people

Anyways, this leaves us to wonder, what do you do if you AREN'T going to prom? Obviously, you can't wallow in despair and eat ice cream all day. You need to make cool plans that are totally bragworthy so when everybody starts posting prom pictures, you can post pictures of yourself doing something WAY cooler like skydiving, chatting at a coffee shop with your favorite celeb, or something along those lines.
Okay, so maybe that isn't so practical... BUT, here is my list of ten things that you can do to to make your not-prom AWESOME!!!

#1 DIY Backyard Pool - Need I say more...

#2 Go get your nails done - These emoji nails are DA BOMB!!!
Cool Emoji Nail Art...:

#3 Build A Fort - I HIGHLY recommend this method (#noeffort)
Me and Slade tried this this weekend and it was awesome!! So simply but so fun!!!:

#4 Fill Balloons with paint and pin them to a canvas. Then, proceed with the darts...
I have always wanted to do this!!!!
Tape or tack paint-filled balloons to a canvas and pop them using darts. Let the paint splatter wherever it goes and see how it turns out:

#5 ULTIMATE JENGA
Jumbo Jenga - would be fun at a Fourth of July party:
#6 Make Pinterest-Worthy Food

#7 Go to a dress store and try on dresses just for the heck of it.
Darling, NYC....Darling is a small, West Village shop known for its wide variety of dress options. No matter what the event, from black tie to more casual cocktails, you'll be able to find what you're looking for here. If you're in search of one-of-a-kind pieces, head downstairs for the store's unique, vintage finds. The best part of the Darling experience is that the inventory is updated at least once a week.:

#8 Crash another city's prom - What... you could totally do this!! Nobody would know you.
#9 Print out pictures from all over the world and make a cute scrapbook of all the places you want to go.
Cute and Easy Scrapbook Design Tutorial | Travel Scrapbook by DIY Ready at http://diyready.com/cool-scrapbook-ideas-you-should-make/:

#10 Make some Ice Cream - Gemma, from Gemma's Bigger Bolder Baking, has some great recipes!

Hope you enjoyed this post! It was a lot of fun to write!!

I need your help...

Hello people of the internet!
I need your help with something. I am writing a story for my novel writing class and I need some new insights. In the comments, can you tell me about your most heartbroken, sad, angry, frustrated, not good enough moments? It would help me a ton! I am writing about a breakup and I've never been through one so I'm not quite sure where to go with it.

You guys are AWESOME!!!!

Book Review: Not Without My Daughter | Betty Mahmoody

353024
Author: Betty Mahmoody
Age: 14+
Genre: Non-Fiction Biography
Content Rating:  PG-13 For mature ideas, not inappropriateness.
My Rating: 6/5 ******
Average time: 10-15 hours (if you were to read it in one sitting)
Pages: 423
Summary: (from www.goodreads.com)
Betty Mahmoody and her husband, Dr. Sayyed Bozorg Mahmoody ('Moody'), came to Iran from the USA to meet Moody's family. With them was their four-year-old daughter, Mahtob. Appalled by the squalor of their living conditions, horrified by what she saw of a country where women are merely chattels and Westerners are despised, Betty soon became desperate to return to the States. But Moody and his often vicious family had other plans. Mother and daughter became prisoners of an alien culture, hostages of an increasingly tyrannical and violent man.

Betty began to try to arrange an escape. Evading Moody's sinister spy network, she secretly met sympathizers opposed to Khomeini's savage regime. But every scheme that was suggested to her meant leaving Mahtob behind forever...

My Thoughts: I bought this book at a yard sale for a dollar and let me just say, it is one of the best dollars that I have ever spent on a book. Where do I even begin with this review? It's hard to rate somebody's life story. I can't comment on the literary value of this book or the strategic placement of the words. This book made me feel so many things from sadness, to worry, and empathy. The way that Betty tells her story is so intriguing that I would highly HIGHLY recommend it as a must-read for everyone.

If you have been following my book review series for a while, you would know that it is very unusual for me to rate a book 6/5 but this book was the exception. So is it worth the read?

Heck yes :)

And I say hey.... hey.... I said hey, what's goin' on (4 Non Blondes) ♫♫♫♫♫

Hello people of the planet earth!! (If you are reading this and you are not from earth, email me. We can be pen pals!! I've always wanted to get to know an alien...)

If you don't get the song reference with the title, go look it up and listen to it while you read this post. Anyways, hello! I apologize for my absence recently. I have been super busy. Second semester just started at school and it has been TOTALLY AND COMPLETELY INSANE!!! My schedule got all switched around which is fun, but it can be a little hectic. My day(s) now look something like this: (new classes are highlighted in red and favorite classes have a * by them)

ODD CLASSES:
1. Chemistry
3. Interior Design I
5. *Novel Writing
7. *Math 1050/1060

EVEN CLASSES
2. *Ad. Ladies Choir
4. US History
8. English 11 Honors (ap)

Now that I look at it all written out, only the middles of my days switched which is kind of strange. Hm. I didn't notice that until just now.

Last night was MORP at my school which sounded like a lot of fun. I didn't end up going because it was girls choice and I didn't really have anybody to ask. My school has done THREE girls choice dances in a row which is a little much if you ask me. I went to the other two (Preference and SPIT Ball (Halloween Dance put on by the theater department. SPIT stands for whatever you want it to. Comment what you think it means below)  and had a great time, but this one didn't sound like as much fun. Plus not very many of my friends went. Clara went and it sounded like she had a good time.

Well, I had better get going. I have a paper to finish writing...
Uggggggh.....
<3/ Audrey

P.S. Here's a cat. If you are having a bad day, just know that this cat is probably having a worse one...

I'm Back!!!!

HI GUYSSSSSS!!!!!

Words cannot even begin to express how much I've missed writing on here. You never realize how great you have it until you give it up. Anyways, no, I'm not dead. Thank you for all of your concerned emails... This term at school just hit me really hard and I couldn't keep up with everything that I had going on so I had to pick and choose where I wanted to focus my energy. On top of that, my anxiety has been flaring up like no other lately so that's fun. (not) How have you all been? It's been forever since I've read any comments and I would love to know how you are all doing. I'll be online for the next hour or so if you leave a comment, we can chat :)

See you guys soon!!
