Book Review! Cloaked by Alex Flinn

Genre: Historical Fiction (1960's)
Age: 13+
Content Rating: PG
My Rating: ****

(summary from the back of the book)
I’m not your average hero. I actually wasn’t your average anything. Just a poor guy working an after-school job at a South Beach shoe repair shop to help his mom make ends meet. But a little magic changed it all.

It all started with the curse. And the frog-napping. And one hot-looking princess, who asked me to lead a rescue mission.

There wasn’t a fairy godmother or any of that. And even though I fell in love along the way, what happened to me is unlike any fairy tale I’ve ever heard. Before I knew it, I was spying with a flock of enchanted swans, talking (yes, talking!) to a fox named Todd, and nearly trampled by giants in the Everglades.

Don’t believe me? I didn’t believe it either. But you’ll see. Because I knew it all was true, the  second I got CLOAKED

I picked this book up at my school library because I was really tired of just reading for literary value. I really just wanted to read something that was fun and light, and also wouldn't take ages to read. I LOVED this book. I think that the author has amazing characterization and organized the plot really well. I also love that it was intense and exciting from the first page to the last page. Often, the climax of a book only spans through one or two chapters but this book did a fantastic job on tying the events together. I also love that it's a romance story told from a guy's perspective. That is a rarity indeed! Good job Alex Flinn. :)
